Despite our darkness and thorns we too have been called to be the salt of the earth. Despite my dyslexia, I try and live into the call God has placed on my life to be a pastor and bring some salty flavoring to this church and community. No matter the darkness that covers you, you have also been called to be “the salt of the earth.”
Jesus essentially said that there are two kinds of people in world; those who see that our connectedness to God is in direct proportion to our connectedness to one another and those who don’t. He once told a parable about these two groups of people.
The young family of three in the Gospel of Matthew lived in uncertain times, but they also lived with an absolute truth. They lived in the love and protection of God. On three separate occasions God talked to Joseph and moved Jesus, Mary, and Joseph out of harm’s way and into a safe place. In this text, we are witness to God’s continual care and preservation.
